Home Theater Designs

Let's talk about home theater designs for the serious aficionado of movies. You have obviously already dedicated a room of your house for your home theater. This is to be your own theater - not a family room or other type of getaway from the world. It's a room dedicated to movies and nothing else. So where do we begin?

Many people believe that the movie screen is the most important component of a home theater system. But they're wrong. It's the sound. Have you ever watched a movie in the theater with grainy pictures but good sound? It is still watchable. But try watching a movie with excellent visuals and poor sound. It's almost unwatchable.

However, the acoustic environment is usually the weakest link in typical home theater designes so let's start there.

You need a decent sized room for the optimum home theater. A room twenty feet wide and twenty-five feet long would be about perfect. You also want a room with some height. Ten to eleven feet high is about right. If the height of the room is too small, you won't be able to have enough clearance on the ceiling speakers to give your the best sound. It'll sound too closed in. If your ceiling is too high, the sound from the ceiling speakers will get lost in the room

You will need a top of the line stereo receiver that is Dolby 5.1 surround capable and can accommodate at least 4 speakers directly from the receiver itself.  You want something that is compact but powerful.  They will contain sub woofers and tweeters and they will be mounted at just above ear level at each corner of the room.

If you're really serious about the acoustics in your home theater designs, you'll hire an acoustic consultant. An acoustic consultant will guide you towards selecting the right kinds of flooring and wall treatments to get the best sound experience. She'll be able to tell you give you the available acoustic options on market for your particular room size. She will also be aware of new products and sound solutions on the market which you may have not heard of.

You won't be needing a big screen television. Instead, you'll be building a permanent wall screen. These screens are perfect for home theaters. Check out some of the screens at www.focusedtechnology.com for a look at what's available out there. You'll find something for all price ranges in varying styles and sizes. The advantage of a fixed wall screen is that it will provide a perfectly flat viewing surface. You will need to build a screen area on your wall and purchase a state of the art DVD projection system that can accommodate almost any reasonable sized wall along with digital sound and remote control.

Congratulations! You now have the perfect movie theater-like experience home theater. Enjoy.
